University of Pécs improved its international position
Montag, den 5 Dezember 2016
We are pleased to announce that the University of Pécs was ranked as 122th in the prestigious Times Higher Education BRICS & Emerging Economies Rankings 2017. on 30 November. The inclusion of University of Pécs in the THE BRICS & Emerging Economies rankings is a significant achievement, meaning our institution is one of the top 300 institutions in the 50 countries included in the analysis. Moreover this placement means that the UP could also improve its position with 15 places.
The examination considered institutions from the 50 countries classified as emerging economies (advanced and secondary) or "frontier economies" by FTSE. But institutions from only 41 of these countries made the final top 300 list. So the University of Pécs’s place in this ranking of the best research-led universities in the developing world is a significant achievement.
The ranking uses the same 13 rigorous performance indicators as the THE World University Rankings, examining each university's strengths against all of its core missions - teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook. But the methodology has been carefully recalibrated to better reflect the characteristics and development priorities of universities in developing economies. More weight is given, for example, to a university's industry links and international outlook.
Phil Baty, Editor of THE World University Rankings said about the UP’s achievement:
"It is no easy task to appear in the 2017 BRICS & Emerging Economies Rankings, which use the same 13 rigorous and demanding performance indicators as the overall World University Rankings. Institutions must demonstrate high standards of performance across teaching, research, international outlook and knowledge transfer and compete with other leading research universities across 50 emerging economy countries. We only rank the very best universities from this cohort so to make the top 300 list is a great achievement in itself and University of Pécs should be heartily congratulated."
